The Essential Podcast Software Starter Kit
The key is consistency and building a repeatable process.
Next week, we’re going more granular and will be diving into how to properly project management a podcast.
Today, we’re taking a look at New Edition’s software stack.
If you’re looking to get a podcast off the ground, the following stack is all you need. All of these tools can be learned by anyone.
But, if I’m being completely honest, you could prop your iPhone against your reusable water bottle and record a podcast. I won’t name names, but I’ve seen it done.
The key is consistency and building a repeatable process.
You’re too busy. You’ll fall behind. You’ll get frustrated and give up. Trust me, I’ve tried.
If you need a hand with your podcast, hit me up or book an hour with me here and we can come up with a plan together.
Alright, let’s dive into the tools…
BUT FIRST, HERE’S THE BEST PEICE OF SHORT-FORM CONTENT I SAW THIS WEEK
THE ESSENTIAL PODCAST SOFTWARE STARTER KIT
RECORDING: Riverside.fm —> easy to use, video quality comes out crisp and helps you look professional and buttoned up to any guests that join your show.
EDITING: Descript —> toss your raw files in here and use their Underlord tool to easily reduce gaps, remove filler words, and create highlights
HOSTING: Spotify for Creators (formerly Anchor) —> there’s a ton of free podcast hosting platforms now, but I’ve always gravitated here. It’s free and allows you to upload video.
CONTENT: Claude.ai —> Hugely helpful when ideating podcast discussion topics, copy for social cuts and text to use for thumbnails
DESIGN: Canva —> You’ll need something like canva to create your podcast cover art and all your promotional graphics.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Asana —> You can use Google Docs for podcast management, but with so many moving parts, things will slip through. Asana is worth $12/mo because it’ll keep you organized.
DATA ORGANIZATION: Notion —> Notion is dynamic - I build, store and review documents in it. While Google Drive works too, I spend about half my workday in Notion. That has to count for something, right?
SCHEDULING: Rella —> Rella lets us schedule podcast cuts, avoiding manual posting. While scheduling all types of social content can hurt performance, for podcast cuts, I’m fine with it.
There you have it. A comprehensive toolkit for podcasters covering the entire production workflow.
While you spend some time looking these tools up, I’m going to spend the week putting together Part 3 of this series - How to Project Manage Your Podcast.
More from me next Sunday ✌️
